Earn free gas by carpooling

MARLTON, N.J. - December 2, 2008 - Now, New Jersey is set to make these benefits even easier to get.

The state's Department of Transportation is encouraging drivers to sign up for its expanded "Carpooling Makes Sense" program.

The incentive is a gasoline gift card for those who carpool 24 days over two months.

Carpools of 4 or more people can receive a $200 gas card. Carpools of 3 get $150, while carpools of 2 get $100.

Right now there are more than 9,000 carpools in New Jersey, and since the program first started in 2006 drivers have saved $26 million by driving 81 million fewer miles.
