Prosecutors begin questioning Fumo

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - February 11, 2009 Vincent Fumo, a former senator, has already been on the witness stand for more than two days. His appearance caps a four-month trial and five-year investigation.

The once-powerful Philadelphia Democrat has admitted that his state-employed secretary prepared his law firm expenses.

The 65-year-old Fumo is charged with defrauding the state, a charity and a museum of $3.5 million in goods and services.

Fumo testified earlier that he sought advice from Philadelphia lawyer Richard Sprague and his firm about destroying e-mails. Fumo is charged with obstruction for allegedly destroying documents the government sought.
