The long sentence was the minimum mandatory sentence under state law. Wright's attorney conceded the judge had no discretion to go below the minimum but argued that 20 to 25 years would have been appropriate.
Wright was arrested last March after a two-month investigation by Middletown police. The victim told police Wright had sexually assaulted her almost daily from the time she was 12 years old until she was 14. Wright was found guilty in December.
