Local official suspended over bonus

RADNOR, Pa. (AP) - February 27, 2009

The Radnor Township commissioners suspended David Bashore with pay on Thursday.

Board of Commissioners president Thomas Masterson Jr. says he will seek Bashore's resignation.

Bashore gave himself his biggest bonus, $18,000, in 2003. It was about 16 percent of his $113,500 salary that year.

He tells The Philadelphia Inquirer the bonus amounts were included in the township budget and he is confident it will be shown that they were appropriate.

Bashore says the township administrative code granted him the authority to give merit-based bonuses to employees and his employment agreement allowed him to receive similar awards.
