40 local retailers offer discounts at Super Sale

CENTER CITY - February 27, 2009

It's one of hundreds of items from nearly 40 retailers that will be on sale at Philadelphia's first "Girls Day Out" at the Loew's hotel (1200 Market Street in Philadelphia). The sale starts at 11:00 a.m. and runs until 3:00 p.m.

Organizer Nicole Cashman of Cashman and Associates explains that with the economy being sluggish, a number of retailers have leftover Fall and Winter inventory, which they need to sell to make room for new Spring and Summer items.

The one-day sale is a way for those retailers to sell those items. Shoppers can access many retailers in one place, which saves on gas and time.

New Spring and summer merchandise -- like a black satin dress from the Jack and Jill Boutique -- will be discounted 10 to 30 percent. Instead of $350, it will sell for $290.

Fine jewelry -- like a green amethyst ring from Bernie Robbins Jewelers -- will be 50% off. So instead of $4,550, it will be $2,275.

The sale will also include home décor items like Indian wood sculptures from Bo Concept for 30% off, along with accessories, and some men's and children's items.

But the best deals will be on fall and winter clothes, which will be up to 80% off. A pair of Tory Burch linen pants, which sold for $395, are reduced to $50. That's an 85% savings.

Admission to the sale is free, but shoppers are asked to bring new toiletries or gently used accessories, which will be donated to the Career Wardrobe. There will also be drawings for door prizes.
