Woman punched in road rage incident

NEWARK, Del. - March 4, 2009 - It happened on Saturday on Route 273 in Newark, Delaware.

Investigators say the 50-year-old woman told them she was driving on I-95 southbound north of Route 273 when a BMW, driven by 56-year-old Timothy Oelke of New Freedom, Pa., almost ran her and another vehicle off the highway.

She told police she exited the highway onto Route 273 and came to a stoplight, when Oelke pulled up behind her.

Police say Oelke got out and kicked the woman's car. When she got out to inspect the damage, she told police Oelke then punched her in the face, knocking her out. Police say Oelke fled the scene, leaving the woman unconscious on the ground. She suffered a concussion.

After Oelke was identified as the suspect, police say he voluntarily turned himself in. He's charged with Assault, Reckless Endangering and Criminal Mischief.
