Cincinnati conductor charged with drunken driving

CINCINNATI (AP) - March 20, 2009

Authorities in suburban Fairfax say Paavo Jarvi's (PAH-voh YAR'-veez) car was running when an officer found him at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Police say the Grammy winner failed a field sobriety test and refused a Breathalyzer test when he was arrested.

Jarvi was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and was ordered to appear in Hamilton County Municipal Court on Tuesday.

The symphony's Web site says Jarvi was born in Estonia in 1962, has been conductor since 2001 and is under contract until 2012. Symphony officials say Jarvi informed them of the arrest, but they declined further comment.
