The Phillies have optioned the struggling pitcher to the minor league camp.
Kendrick, who shined in 2007, has struggled since last August, when he went 1-4 down the Phillies World Series run. He was so bad at times that the Phillies left him off the postseason roster. They replaced him with J.A. Happ.
Despite that setback, when spring training opened, pitching coach Rich Dubee called Kendrick the favorite to be the team's fifth starting pitcher.
But, again, Kendrick struggled. He was just 1-3 this Spring. His ERA was more than nine.
Happ and new Phils pitcher Chan Ho Park have been solid in spring. Both are now vying for the fifth spot Kendrick lost.
