Car-Vulture collision hurts 1 in N.J.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (AP) - March 27, 2009

State police say a turkey vulture flew into the windshield as Jorge Hurtado's minivan traveled eastbound in Parsippany.

State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones says the bird struck Hurtado's wife in the face, causing minor cuts and sending glass in her eyes.

Her husband told troopers the bird ended up on the middle seat behind him and was alive for a brief time. Trooper Brian Miller declared the vulture dead at the scene.

Miller says Vanessa Hurtado requested that Eagle Towing remove the carcass so that it would not sit in the hot vehicle all day.
