Mayor, governor name 4 to Philly schools panel

Gov. Ed Rendell and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter have announced three new appointments and a reappointment to the five-member School Reform Commission that has been running the city's schools since a state takeover of in December 2001. Robert Archie Jr. will be the new chairman of the panel. Joseph Dworetzky and Johnny Irizarry are the new members, and Heidi Ramirez has been reappointed to another full term. They join Denise McGregor Armbrister, whose term is not over.

Rendell calls it a "tough board" that will hold schools accountable. He says the school system has made dramatic improvements in the past seven years.
