Police: Sex offender impersonated cop

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - October 16, 2009 Investigators say Michael Gagnon, 45, went into the Corning Ware Outlet store in Rehoboth and started making inappropriate sexual comments to a 20-year-old male store employee. The worker became alarmed, and called police.

Gagnon left before police arrived, but witnesses said he was wearing police apparel and left in a Ford Crown Victoria, believed to be a used, unmarked police car.

A short time later, police say Gagnon went to the Purple Parrot Restaurant where he solicited a 19-year-old male employee. A shouting match began, and management asked Gagnon to leave, to which he allegedly made a number of statements about being a law enforcement officer.

Rehoboth police were called and arrested Gagnon. He was turned over to state police and charged with failing to re-register as a sex offender, impersonating a police officer, and sexual harrassment.

Gagnon was sent to prison on $15,000 bond. He was ordered not to have any contact with either of the victims in this incident.
