PATCO worker rushed to hospital after hitting 3rd rail

CENTER CITY - November 24, 2009

The accident happened at about 1:30 on Tuesday morning.

The 40-year-old man was working on tracks in the subway at 15th and Locust Streets in Center City Philadelphia.

Investigators say the worker accidentally hit the third rail -- the rail that carries the high voltage needed to power electric trains.

The worker was rushed to Jefferson Hospital where he is in serious condition with burns.
