Plane headed for Philly hits bird, loses engine

PHILADELPHIA - December 6, 2009

Airport officials say Continental Airlines flight 3046 from Cleveland was on final approach to Philadelphia when it was hit by a bird.

One of the two engines ingested the bird and the engine shut down leaving only one engine operational.

The plane, however, was able to make a safe landing and all 53 people onboard were uninjured.

The aircraft is an Embraer RJ145. An example of which is pictured above.
