Mrs. Fixit: Dishwasher As A Tool

January 10, 2010

Baby toys go in and out of mouths, floors and furniture and then back into the mouth. Well, pop washable toys into the dishwasher to clean off kid grime and kill off germs. Hair brushes and combs need a good washing from time to time as well. So, clean out any hair and pop those into the silverware holder for a quick clean.

Another item that breeds bacteria and carries germs is the kitchen sponge. Finish any dishes you're doing by hand, wipe down the sink and pop into the dishwasher before you run the washer.

Also in the kitchen, the metal filter in your range fan. Run it through a cycle to melt away the grease and grime that gets caught in there.

Another tough thing to wash are baseball caps. Try to run them through a washing machine and the brim will get messed up. If you try to wash them by hand, you get botches and streaks. Set them on the top shelf of the dishwasher and the racks will keep them in shape while cleaning all the way through.

Using the dishwasher to its full potential. I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple.
