Police: Blood stains led to Del. burglary suspect

ARDEN, Del. - January 8, 2010

Police say a woman called police last week to report that someone had broken into her apartment and took more than $2,000 in electronic equipment. The intruder broke through a glass door and cut himself, leaving behind small spots of blood.

When officers talked to neighbor 22-year-old Joshua Richardson, police say they noticed a cut on his right hand and fresh blood stains on his apartment doorway.

Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro says detectives got a search warrant and found evidence linking him to the crime, including glass shards similar to those in the broken door.

Richardson was arrested Wednesday and DNA was obtained to compare to the recovered blood sample.
