New Camden mayor wants to raise aides' salaries

CAMDEN, N.J. - February 3, 2010

The top salary for mayoral aides would jump from $71,000 to $150,000. Redd also wants to raise the maximum salaries for city attorney and mayor's counsel, though not as drastically.

Her spokesman says the bigger salaries are needed to attract a qualified and experienced staff.

Redd is not proposing any changes to her $102,000 salary.

Watchdog Kelly Francis called raises for anyone during a recession in the impoverished city "insane."

City Council President Frank Moran says officials have assured him the higher salaries wouldn't raise this year's city budget.
