Wilm. young people helping the Haiti effort

WILMINGTON, Del. - February 15, 2010 It appeared as organized chaos but kids, many of whom are members of the Jack and Jill of America Incorporated, teamed up with an organization called Shoes to Share to collect, sort and count donations bound for Haiti.

The kids say they just wanted a way to help. And help they did with items like toothpaste, donated by a local dentist, to bagging trash every volunteer had a job from the youngest to the oldest.

Local churches got involved too, Bethel AME donated more than 300 boxes of disposable diapers. And then there was Union Baptist Church which collected an estimated 500 pairs of shoes.

In all, 2,052 pairs of shoes were collected along with 15,000 pounds of other goods like bottled water all to be flown to Haiti by Shoes to Share.
