Strike a pose! Students create flash mob freeze

PHILADELPHIA - April 1, 2010

There were engrossed readers, Charie's Angels, and just a guy pointing to nothing in particular.

For three minutes, they decided to stick together with how they were stuck; some soon regretting their choice.

"I sprung a pose and where was like hanging off of [my friend]. I didn't realize how hard that was for three minutes. I thought my face was going to melt," Chris David of West Chester said.

Using a Facebook page to spread the word, the idea was to show that the flash mobs that have recently gained notoriety of late in Philadelphia do not need to be destructive to attract attention.

Still, with police officers stationed nearby just in case, it was a reminder that these flash mobs aren't always so lighthearted.

In South Philadelphia, in one of the more recent episodes, hundreds of teens stampeded after receiving twitter messages to come to South Street.

"It's a very nonviolent way of freedom of expression showing young people can get together without violence and beating each other up. It's fun to express ourselves," Ashley Sindako of King of Prussia said.
