Fundraising spares Hollywood sign from sprawl

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - April 27, 2010

Along with public money, private donations came from all 50 states, 10 other countries, Tiffany & Co., and individuals, including Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

And, a final $900,000 donation came from Hugh Hefner to help secure the land.

Hefner had led the campaign in the 1970s to rebuild the Hollywood sign.

So, he has a history of saving that symbol of Hollywood.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger couldn't be happier.

He says "the Hollywood sign will welcome dreamers and artists and Austrian bodybuilders from around the world to continue coming over here for generations to come."
