Robber steals $10K as bank opens

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - May 14, 2010

According to Superintendent Michael Chitwood, the bank robbery happened at around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

It occurred at the Sovereign Bank on the 5300 block of Baltimore Avenue. There, a bank teller was waiting to enter the bank to go to work when the suspect came up at gunpoint and forced her inside.

He made her deactivate the security system and tried to get her to open the vault, but was unable to do so.

The bank robber was able to get away with $10,000 from the start up drawer.

Police are looking for a male in his 20's with a light to medium complexion.

He was last seen running through the bank parking lot.

There were no injuries.
