Mall store clothes for less in Collegeville

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - July 23, 2010

"I was getting ready to go to King of Prussia Mall," explained Gerri Maguire of Collegeville, who was perusing the racks at Trendz Apparel. "My daughter's 13 today. (I was) going to go to Hollister, Abercrombie and I thought, 'Let me try here first.' because it's so much cheaper."

Trendz Apparel sells both new and re-sale clothing -- targeted to the young, and young-at-heart.

Angela Obzud opened Trendz 10 months ago, after surviving cancer and leaving her corporate job for something with a shorter commute and more flexibility.

"I have a 14-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son who all like the name-brand clothes, but they're the crazy price," Obzud says. "And so I figured, with the economy being so bad, what better way that I could open a store that I could sell clothes at a discounted price."

New clothing -- at the front of the store -- sells for about half-off regular retail.

We found Hollister tops marked $29.50, for $15, Hollister sweaters marked $44.50 for $21, and Abercrombie tops marked $30 for $16.

Designer jeans were $20 and men's Aeropostale shorts, marked $29.50, were priced at $14.

And in the re-sale section, at the back of the store, there are amazing deals on the $5 sale rack, along with other re-sale items that are priced around 30% of regular retail. Obzud pays cash for gently used clothes.

"If we would sell something for $10, we generally give the person $4" she explains. "There's no consignment fees, you get the money right there on the spot, so it works out. The whole idea is that you bring your clothes in here, you get your cash and you can buy new clothes."

You do need an appointment to sell your clothes.

You can reach the stores at 610-409-2744. The store is located at 305 Second Avenue (Route 29), Suite 204 in Collegeville. To visit their website, click here.
