Police: Jewel thief strikes 9 times in 3 states

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - June 18, 2010

He does not use a weapon and he makes no attempt to hide his face.

His activity is well documented by surveillance cameras.

Police in Delaware say the man seen robbing Michael Gallagher Jewelers in Bear is 27-year-old Jonathan Wiseman of New Castle.

Police in Cherry Hill believe it's the same man who robbed Paramito and Sons Jewelers on Rt. 70 on June 15th.

"He came and looked pretty clean cut, pretty honest, and very charismatic," store owner Patty Paramitto said.

After asking to see 1-karat diamond rings, the thief grabbed two valued at $8,500.

"He grabbed my hands and yanked both rings out of my hands and he barreled out of the door in a split second," Paramitto said.

It's alleged that in the last two weeks, Wiseman stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from three stores in Delaware and shops in Bensalem, Middletown, Bucks County, Ridley Township, Monroe Township, New Jersey and Cherry Hill.

"We are working with these other agencies and assisting them by sharing information so that we can put together the best possible case to bring this guy to justice," Bill Kushina of the Cherry Hill Police Department said.

On Wednesday, there was an attempted robbery at Family Jewelers in Marlton.

Store owner Angelo Breaux says an alert with Wiseman's photo went out to Jewelers' Association Members. He says workers in his store spotted Wiseman and so did cameras.

"He absolutely was trying to rob the store; he was leaning way over the showcase than a customer would. I took three pictures of him with my iPhone and then I went out front to call police," Breaux said.

Breaux says the man took off in a red Honda or Mazda before police arrived.

In a few the cases, police say the suspect was seen to be traveling with a woman.

Wiseman is still at large, but police say they are getting close to an arrest.
