Allentown police say an officer shot 24-year-old Jeremiah Nieves after he pulled a gun while fleeing on foot from a police traffic stop on Sunday.
Investigators say Nieves and 26-year-old Luis Martinez had broken into a home earlier in nearby Bethlehem, then assaulted the owners and tied them up in the basement before fleeing with money, jewelry and other items.
Authorities say Nieves and Martinez were in the couple's SUV when they were spotted in Allentown and police pulled them over.
Police say Nieves is hospitalized in stable condition and Martinez is in custody. It was not clear if either man had attorneys.
