State police say Pa. teen shot by found pistol

NEW CASTLE, Pa. - June 30, 2010

Police and emergency dispatchers say the incident happened about 3 a.m. in Hickory Township, about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh and not far from the Ohio border. The boy was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, but his name and condition have not been released.

WTAE-TV says a police official reported the boys found the gun and that it apparently fired accidentally, wounding one boy. Police and dispatchers have variously described the area where it happened as a residence or a hunting camp.

A police official at the New Castle barracks on Wednesday refused to provide further details or clarification.
