J&J laying off hundreds to upgrade problem factory

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - July 15, 2010 P> The healthcare giant says it has decided to make a significant investment in the manufacturing facilities, equipment and laboratories at its plant in Fort Washington, Pa. P> The upgrades are part of a comprehensive quality-improvement plan that Johnson & Johnson says it has submitted to the Food and Drug Administration. P> About 300 of the 400 positions at the factory will be eliminated while it is out of service for what J&J is calling "a protracted period of time." P>
