Sexual assault, shooting suspect killed during arrest

CLEMENTON, N.J. - July 21, 2010

Naquan Johnson, 21, of Williamstown, was found in a unit of the Cherrywood Townhouses in Gloucester Township by members of the New York/New Jersey U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force about 6:30 p.m.

Two members of the task force confronted the suspect in a bedroom and attempted to take him into custody. The suspect, armed with a firearm, made a threatening gesture toward law enforcement officers. Officers fired and hit the suspect. He subsequently died.

Johnson was wanted in connection with the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman about 1 a.m. Wednesday during a gathering at an apartment on the 1000 block of Collings Avenue in Collingswood. Police say he apparently made romantic overtures toward the woman, and when she rebuked him he Tasered her and sexually assaulted her at gunpoint. He then shot a Philadelphia man in the head during a dispute.

That man was in critical condition at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton Wednesday night.

The New Jersey State Police and the New Jersey Attorney General's Shooting Response Team are conducting a review of Johnson's shooting.
