Police: Woman drunk when she hit bicyclist

DEPTFORD TWP., N.J. - September 15, 2010

Mary Dalton, 40, of Redstone Ridge Drive in Deptford, was charged with vehicular homicide and other offenses in the death of 44-year-old Thomas McCoy.

Police say Dalton hit McCoy with her Ford Explorer around 11:30 p.m. on the northbound side of Delsea Drive near Holy Trinity School.

Police say Dalton's Explorer drifted into the shoulder of the road and hit McCoy from behind. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Dalton's damaged SUV was found disabled on the side of the road about a mile north of the crash. Dalton, who was not injured, was with her vehicle, police said.

Dalton has been charged with death by auto, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving while intoxicated.

Dalton's bail was set at $125,000.

McCoy's family said he had worked at the McDonald's in Woodbury Heights for nearly 20 years. He rode his bike everywhere and was returning from a Walmart store when he was struck.
