Father of bride beaten with shotgun during robbery

NEW CASTLE, Del. - December 10, 2010

Police were called to the 1600 block of New Jersey Avenue on Saturday around 5:32 p.m.

The victim said he was preparing for his daughter's wedding and had walked outside to his car when he was approached by three men.

One of the men brandished a shotgun and tried to rob the man as the other two surrounded him.

The victim said he was then struck in the face with the butt of the shotgun, then the attacker swung it "like a baseball bat." The victim blocked the blow with his arm and yelled for help.

That's when the suspects ran off empty-handed. The victim sustained a broken arm and multiple facial contusions during the assault.

The suspect with the shotgun is described as a black male, 6'0'-6'2", 200 pounds with dark eyes and black hair. The other two suspects were only described as black men.

The victim indicated he was robbed in August in the same area, but not sure if it was the same suspects. He refused treatment at the scene, but was later treated for a broken arm.

The victim was able to assist an artist with constructing a composite sketch on Thursday afternoon.
