6ABC Loves the Arts: Pops Singin' and Swingin'

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - January 23, 2011

The sultry-voiced and witty Ann Hampton Callaway will be the star of the show.

Callaway remarks "...we're doing songs from the Great American songbook and one of my own pieces that I wrote for Barbara Streisand's wedding. Excuse me, I dropped a name and it's going to be romantic, frisky, fun, beautiful, inspiring, a little dangerous."

The danger comes in the last song when Hampton Callaway will write and compose a song about Philadelphia on the spot, using words and phrases thrown out by the audience and the Pops will improvise right along with her.

"I will tell them the last note," says Callaway.

Best known for her Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway musical, "Swing" and for singing the theme song to TV's hit sitcom "The Nanny" Hampton Callaway promises it will be a nostalgic night of romantic fun.

Callaway says, "Because I'm a diva and a gracious diva, I'm going to be performing a diva blessing on the audience. So if there are any single and bitter people, they will be given a blessing by the end of the concert and feeling the possibilities coming to them."

You can sing and swing with the Philly Pops February 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th. Go to http://phillypops.org/ for concert times and ticket information.
