The victim was identified as Pierre Johnson of Newark, Delaware. Investigators say there are no signs the death was a homicide.
At approximately 10:38 a.m. Sunday, Wilmington police responded to the 300 block of S. Park Drive after a passerby spotted the body in the Mill Race (the name for the channel), directly beneath the Washington Street Bridge.
The Wilmington Fire Department responded to the scene and was able to recover the body without incident. Authorities say the victim, later identified as Pierre Johnson, appeared to be in the water for several days.
The investigation is continuing.
