It happened Tuesday about 7:55 p.m. at the University Courtyard Apartments. Police say the victim answered his door and was confronted by three masked men, one with a handgun and one with a baseball bat. The victim was hit with the bat and the suspects demanded cash and a safe.
During a struggle, the victim pulled over the masked of one of the men and identified him as an acquaintance.
A police investigation revealed the identity of the three men and a juvenile who acted a a getaway driver.
Charged with robbery, assault and other offenses are 20-year-old James Elliot, 19-year-old James Zimkowski-Wheatley and 22-year-old Joseph Murach, all of Newark. Also charged was a 17-year-old girl.
