2 Phila. fires gut homes, injure one

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - February 23, 2011

At about 3:30 a.m., fire broke out in a row home on the 1600 block of West Cabot Street in North Philadelphia.

When firefighters arrived they found flames spitting out of second floor windows, and smoke pouring out of the roof.

The building has a garage on the first floor and apartments above it.

It took 45 minutes for crews to gain control of the blaze.

There are no reports of injuries and no word yet on a cause.

Just after 1:00 on Wednesday morning, flames burst through the roof of a corner house at the end of the 2500 block of North Spangler Street in the Strawberry Mansion section of the city.

Firefighters had to beat back flames bursting through the roof.

It took a half hour to put out the fire.

Crews treated one person at the scene.

Investigators are looking for the cause.
