Six year old gives big for cancer fundraiser

Lawrenceville, N.J. - March 12, 2011

Six year old Aiden Robbins sat in the chair anxiously awaiting his turn for a close shave.

The kindergartner from Yardley was taking part in the annual St. Baldrick's Fundraiser at the Amalfi Restaurant in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

The fundraiser is one of hundreds of head-shaving events taking place around the nation to raise funds for pediatric cancer research.

For Aiden, the cause is personal. He lost his five year old friend, Lauren Maziarz last October.

"We used to play in the yard together," tells Aiden.

"We had said from the beginning, if he was close to $1,000, we would get him above that $1,000," explained Aiden's father, Shaun Robbins.

But Aiden has raised $8,000, and the buzz is that the event is well on its way to raising $100,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

"This is my little donation," said Aiden.

"He told me that he wished he had done this earlier to so that he could have saved his friend Lauren," explained Aiden's mom Jacklyn Robbins.

Elizabeth and Dennis Maziarz are the grandparents of little Lauren who lost her battle with neuroblastoma.

"Aiden was the love of Lauren's life," said Dr. Dennis Maziarz. "They became friends immediately, and just to see him do this brings tears to our eyes. And we're so proud of him."

"It amazes me," said Lauren's Grandmother Elizabeth Maziarz. "All of these children out here for other children who are suffering."

Many of the children attend Lawrenceville Schools.

Plenty of men and woman also took park in shedding their locks for a good cause.

Aiden may have little hair left, but his big gesture of kindness will certainly be an inspiration to others.
