Pa. Catholic college, fired gay teacher reach deal

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - March 21, 2011

Father James St. George and college officials were scheduled to hold a news briefing Monday, but it was abruptly cancelled. A few hours later, St. George sent out a statement saying a resolution had been reached "consistent with the religious beliefs of each party."

Forty-five-year-old St. George, pastor of St. Miriam Catholic Apostolic Church of Blue Bell, had taught at the college since the fall of 2009 but was told last month that his contract would not be renewed. He said he had been open about his sexuality and about his affiliation with a church not recognized by the Vatican.
