Fast moving fire destroys Newport home

NEWPORT, Del. - September 18, 2011

The fire broke out around 3:43 a.m. near the intersection of Cleveland Street and Farwell Road.

Heavy fire was showing from the rear of the home when firefighters arrived.

The fire became so intense that the roof of the home collapsed.

It took six fire companies from New Castle County to contain the blaze.

The homeowners were not at home when the fire broke out.

The home has been declared a total loss.

There were no reported injuries.

So far there is no word on a cause.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
