Arrest in killing of woman during 'strangler' scare

PHILADELPHIA - January 10, 2012

William Walton, 40, of the 900 block of North 45th Street , was arrested on Monday and charged in the death of 22-year-old Allison Edwards back on December 3rd, 2010.

Edwards was found dead inside a second floor apartment in the 3800 block of Glendale Street that night amid the ongoing 'Kensington Strangler' case.

The fact that she was strangled led to the theory that she was another victim, but police say they eventually determined her death was not connected.

More than a year after she was killed, police issued an arrest warrant for Walton, culminating in his arrest on Monday.

There was no immediate word on how Walton came to be the suspect in this case or if he had any connection to Edwards prior to her death.

Edwards' family told Action News shortly after her death that the young mother had struggled with drug problems, but was working to turn her life around.

22-year-old Antonio Rodriguez was arrested in January, 2011 - accused of being the Kensington Strangler. He was charged in the deaths of Elaine Goldberg, Nicole Piacentini and Casey Mahoney.
