Hunger Games train like a tribute workout

PHILADELPHIA - March 22, 2012

The Hunger Games movie premieres in theaters on Friday, and if you are familiar with the books, you will understand what it means to "train like a tribute."

That is exactly what one local gym is helping people to do.

It's a book, a movie and now a workout. Health reporter and Registered Nurse Ali Gorman took us inside "The hunger games- train like a tribute" class.

We first file into what is now referred to as "the arena" inside Philadelphia Sports Club. What comes next is a full-body, intense workout inspired by "the hunger games.

"What better way with the buzz about the movie to incorporate this with fitness," said Eric Salvador.

The circuit includes four skills taken right from the book.

Katness killers mimic the character Katness and her archery skills, then to Capitol crunches to work your core for tree climbing.

There are also jabber-jay jacks and Peeta presses in honor of the character Peeta's strength.

"It hits every body part," said Salvador.

And it has you moving; after all it's a competition.

In the real Hunger Games, it's survival of the fittest.

For the workout, it is who can complete the most cycles.

"If you were just doing this yourself, it wouldn't be, it would be a good workout but with the aspect of other people doing it, I mean you want to win," said Nick Ciervo.

But it was not Nick's day.

Jackie Seigle is a Hunger Games mega fan. She even dressed as Katness. She won the competition

"It really went along with the book, and made it very fun and competitive so I tried much harder than I would in a normal class," said Seigle.

The class is offered on Wednesdays at 6:30pm through April. It is free to members and non-members. For more information, call 215-564-5353.
