It happened around 7:30 Sunday morning at the Plains All American Pipeline on the 6800 block of Essington Avenue.
Initial reports indicate that the man in his 40s was working on a platform inside a gas storage tank when he fell.
The worker passed out from the gas fumes.
Officials worked to quickly ventilate the tank and lower a crew member inside to assist the victim.
An hour later the man was rescued but was unresponsive at the time.
The victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.
