Police say they responded to the 2900 block of Van Buren Street shortly before 8:00 Friday morning regarding a theft in progress.
Arriving officers approached two men who were sitting in a parked car.
Police told the two men to exit the vehicle. They refused to comply and allegedly tried to run down one of the officers.
At that point, the officer was forced to fire his weapon several times - striking the car as it sped off.
One of the suspects - a 17-year-old male - was later found on the 2500 block of Washington Street, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition.
Police are still searching for the second person inside the vehicle.
