"I think it's a disgrace," said monument company worker Dan Kendall. "I don't know, is the guy a nut or what?"
The flags were put out on veterans' graves just prior to Memorial Day. Soon staffers noticed some flags missing, then spotted a man acting in an erratic manner.
"We had a gentleman came thru cemetery who was disturbed, and he was throwing flags everywhere," said cemetery superintendent Anthony Fratto. "We found some on railroad tracks."
The individual responsible, and yes, the thinking is he is local, didn't get all the flags. But he got a lot of them. And then he began stashing them around the cemetery.
At one point Anthony Fratto says he confronted the guy.
"I screamed, 'Hey you!' He goes and takes off. I followed behind," he said. "He throws them over the fence jumps over the fence and takes off."
Over the last several days Fratto says he and a co-worker have collected the flags as they found them. They plan to turn them over to the VFW for proper disposal.
