SPCA: 2 women doused cats with ammonia

WEST PHILADELPHIA - July 3, 2012

Officials say the women intentionally killed one cat and severely injured two others by dousing them with ammonia.

The incident was reported just before 3:00 p.m. at a home on the 4800 block of Westminster Street in West Philadelphia.

According to SPCA spokesman George Bengal, the women were allegedly trying to get rid of the cats that were roaming in the neighborhood.

"If people have an issue with cats in their neighborhood, there are agencies and organizations that can help. This is not the proper way to deal with animals. People shouldn't resort to cruel methods," Bengal said.

The injured animals were brought to Pennsylvania SPCA's headquarters on Erie Avenue for treatment.

The names of the women arrested are being held until they are officially booked and processed by West Detectives.
