Owner of 44 cats ordered to get rid of all but 5

LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - December 4, 2012

Rhonda Goss has been ordered to cut the cat population at her Manheim Township home after someone complained. A township ordinance limits pet owners to five grown cats or dogs.

Goss says she's a cat lover who takes in strays and abused animals, making sure they're fed and fixed. Goss' veterinarian says the cats kept at the four-bedroom home are well cared-for.

But assistant township zoning officer Samuel Maurer says the rules are the rules. Goss has until Dec. 21 to get down to five cats.

Neighbors tell the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era they're surprised how many cats Goss had because they haven't been a nuisance.

Goss says she is seeking good homes for them.
