Skip the roses, help save a diabetic child

PHILADELPHIA, PA.; February 12, 2013

Several groups of diabetes bloggers are trying to give the holiday new meaning with the "Spare A Rose, Save A Child" initiative, on behalf of the International Diabetes Federation.

All the money raised will go to the IDF's Life For a Child program, which provides life-saving diabetes supplies to children in developing countries. The children couldn't otherwise afford insulin or diabetes care.

This week, the groups will be blogging, tweeting, and posting on Facebook to raise awareness and money for the cause.

Anyone who wants to donate, can do it via the Six Until Meblog, or the Diabetes Hands Foundation.

Or they can donate directly at the Life for A Child campaign.

The IDF estimates that there are approximately 366 million people in the world diagnosed with diabetes, and among them, 490,000 children with Type 1 diabetes under the age of 15.

The Life for a Child program is currently supporting over 10,050 children in 40 countries.
