Coast Guard responds to oil spill in Delaware River

CHESTER, Pa. - January 28, 2014

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection says a pipe ruptured Monday afternoon as crews were offloading the crude at the Monroe Energy refinery in Trainer, Delaware County, which is about one mile south of the Commodore Barry Bridge.

Emergency responders from the department joined the Coast Guard and other members of an incident management team to assess the cleanup.

Officials said the spill was reported promptly, and the frigid weather and quick response helped minimize the impact of the spill.
