GALLOWAY TWP., New Jersey (WPVI) -- Authorities in Atlantic County are searching for the driver who left the scene of a fatal crash on Thursday night.

Galloway Township police say they were called to the crash scene around 8:00 p.m. on the busy stretch of Route 30 near Seventh Avenue.

A vehicle had struck a pedestrian, identified as 33-year-old Angeletta Sheppard, of Barnegat, New Jersey.

She was pronounced dead on scene. Galloway Township police believe she was walking in the shoulder of the westbound lanes when she was struck.

Police also say the driver fled on foot, leaving behind a silver Kia Optima.

Photos sent to Action News by a viewer show police activity on Seventh Avenue near a silver vehicle.

Several neighbors in Absecon Estates said they heard screaming and commotion outside Thursday night along with a large police response.

One neighbor we spoke with who didn't want to appear on camera said he saw the driver of a silver car pull over, get out and take off on foot down Seventh Avenue away from Route 30.

Action News briefly spoke with the victim's brother on Friday. He described her as "a free spirit" who will be missed dearly.

Police have not released a description of the driver.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Galloway Twp. police or the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
