Philadelphia Flower Show provides taste of spring on blustery weekend
Plenty of people escaped the brisk conditions outside for a taste of spring on Sunday.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It's the first weekend of the Philadelphia Flower Show, and blooming flowers and lush, green plants have officially taken over the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Sunday was 'Family Day,' and thousands flocked to see the exhibits.

"Every year there's something different, something new, I just like to see what's out there," said Jennifer Kubica of Barto, Pennsylvania.

"This smells beautiful. The arrangements are amazing. It will inspire us to do some planting," said Bridgette Joynes of Claymont, Delaware.

Like many others, Joynes says the Flower Show has become an annual familytradition.

"Every year we come. My mom loves flowers, I come to support her. And my daughter comes to support me and her grandma," said Joynes.

"I started when my daughters were little. Now they're old like me," said Jimmy Brozina of Millville, NJ.

"She turned four weeks old on Friday, she's ready to go. We come every year. Now it's the new tradition," said Amy Hunter of Wilmington, Delaware.

This year's theme is Gardens of Tomorrow. The exhibits highlight imagining the future and looking forward to how nature can help us.

The show covers more than 10 acres of space and features hundreds of exhibitors, massive floral arrangements, plant competitions and flower-themed fashion.

"It showcases cultural talent from all over the world, all over this region, pros, amateurs kids, seasoned experts," said President of Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Matt Rader. "Lots of fun things to do. Everything with plants, everything with flowers, really a burst of spring a couple weeks early."

6abc is a proud media partner of the show.

The flower show is open daily from 10am-8pm, and runs until March 9th.
