ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- The2025 Atlantic City airshow is back on -- but with a new name.

Visit Atlantic City announced on Wednesday the Soar & Shore Festival on July 15 and 16, which will bring back the popular airshow to the Jersey Shore -- but with a new twist.

"We are incorporating the historic Atlantic City Boardwalk and you'll be able to sit on our beaches and watch the air show and incorporate all the festival activities that we'll be having as well," said Karina Anthony of Visit Atlantic City.

It's going to be a civilian airshow, according to organizers. In the past, the AC Airshow has been a display of military pride, so the new version will be very different.

"The airshow has always been an incredibly popular event in Atlantic City, and we are excited to be able to partner with Herb Gillen Airshows to bring back this experience for our locals and visitors alike," said Visit Atlantic City president and CEO, Gary Musich.

"We think it'll be great," said Danielle Hansen, from Plymouth, Massachusetts. "We'll definitely come back to watch it."

Organizers said on Tuesday that the funding was approved for the show, which will be organized and funded through Visit Atlantic City, in cooperation with the Greater Atlantic City Chamber and the city of Atlantic City.

There is still a lot of planning to do before the summer event. The acts have not been announced, so we don't know who will be performing yet.

In December 2024, the Greater Atlantic City Chamber said it was not going to happen, citing a "strategic pause." Funding has also been an issue as the costs of the show have grown.

"It was disappointing when they canceled it but I'm glad to see it coming back," said Craig Thomas, from Bridgeton, New Jersey. "There's so many people down here, the beaches are just covered when they have it. So I'm glad to hear they're coming back."

The major attraction along the Atlantic City shoreline was canceled in 2024 year after officials said a "major act" pulled out a month before the slated event.

Over the years, the airshow has brought hundreds of thousands of people to Atlantic City's beaches and boardwalk. In 2023, the event drew 485,000 people to the beachfront, officials said.

After it was announced that Atlantic City would not hold an air show in 2025, Wildwood officials announced an air show of their own, set for the weekend after Labor Day.

On Wednesday, Wildwood tourism officials confirmed their show is still on.
