The southeastern Kentucky Sheriff's deputy and his dog killed in a collision with teens from our region were laid to rest Monday.

Sean Pursifull, 31, of Bell County and his service dog King were killed when a car driven by 17-year-old David Poppiti of New Castle, Delaware struck the officer's car in a high-speed chase.

Poppiti was with Eric Gerren, 16, of Lincoln University, Pa. They were trying to run away from police after a gas station drive-off.

Both have been charged with murder and assault of a service animal.

The Reverend David Peters said Pursifull "poured his whole heart into that uniform," and added he "was willing to pay the ultimate price."
