End of checks for property rebates?

New Jersey's property tax rebate checks might be replaced with tax credits. Treasury Department officials are meeting at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton to discuss whether the checks can be turned into credits on property tax bills.

A decision is expected within a week.

While turning the checks into a tax credit has been the goal, officials have said creating such a credit system has proven complicated.

The checks also serve as a reminder from elected officials.

New Jersey has the nation's highest property taxes.
