The man was found in a second-floor bedroom of the house in the city's Venice Park neighborhood.
Firefighters say the second floor was completely filled with smoke when they arrived shortly after 7:45 p.m. Monday.
The victim was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
His name was not released pending notification of relatives.
No one else was injured.
A stress debriefing team was called in to help firefighters cope with their reactions to the death.
